MISSION STATEMENT
Calton Hill Primary School provides a stimulating learning environment in which the resources of both the school and community are combined to facilitate life-long learners
Calton Hill Primary School Board of Trustees support the teachers and the community in the above mission statement.
OUR VISION
Our school aims to:
1. Be the first choice of school for our local community.
2. Be recognised for delivering quality education to meet the individual developmental and needs of the students.
3. Be seen as a school that focuses on all developmental needs – academic, emotional, physical, cultural and spiritual, with an emphasis given to improving numeracy and literacy skills.
The vision for our young people is that they:
1. Will work towards being good citizens.
2. Will be confident, self-motivated, lifelong learners, cultural sensitive and able to relate across all cultures.
3. Who will work to create an Aotearoa NZ that embraces the partnership values of Treaty of Waitangi.
4. Who will be confident and work towards the wellbeing of NZ social, cultural, economic and environmental.
SHARED VALUES
Our shared values, the values we live by are reflected in the way we work and play and in our relationships with each other.
• At Calton Hill we value the family atmosphere of the school which is reflected in the holistic development and well-being of our students. (NEP2) (NAG5)
We provide a balanced curriculum that provides opportunities for all children, incorporating their cultural backgrounds and reflecting the vision of the school.
• The rights of students to a safe environment (NEP 1,3,4,5,6,7) (NAG1)
We provide a balanced curriculum with many opportunities for all children. Co-curricular subjects include sporting ,Cultural (Pasifika dance and song) Maori KapaHaka, language respect of the culture and song as well as a vibrant curriculum based programme. We are introducing the values programme through out the school.
• Recognise and celebrate effort, progress and achievement in all students. We inspire children to reach their full potential. (NEP 1,2,3,5,6,,NAG1)
We emphasis literacy and numeracy. Children work at their level whilst being challenged to improve. Risk taking is encouraged. Maori and Pasifika children are expected to achieve at the same rate as pakeha/palagi children.
• We are committed to professional development (NAG3)
Quality teaching requires ongoing training for staff. Awareness of learning styles, abilities of each child and best practice are ongoing reasons for training
• Show respect and support for colleagues in professional and personal roles (NAG3)
We support and value staff. Industry will be celebrated and recognised Workload and stress reduction are important issues to be addressed
• Demonstrate a commitment to effective communication (NAG2)
